Magnetic filter, its industrial applications

Magnetic filters have the ability to treat water with almost zero energy consumption, so that maintenance costs are low since only the removal of the waste attracted by the magnetic zone of the filter needs to be monitored and controlled. Moreover, magnetic filters do not require the supervision of auxiliary equipment.

A magnetic filter is composed of:

- A casing: the casing allows the filter an inlet and an outlet for liquids.

- The body: in this part of the magnetic filter is the magnetic system which is made up of bar magnets, placed inside a stainless steel case.

Types of magnetic filters

 There are different types of industrial magnetic filters, but the most commonly used are the following:

• Continuous fast cleaning magnetic filter: this type of process works automatically and is programmed with a pneumatic valve integrated into the magnetic filter. This type of system is intended for the cleaning of other machinery.
• Separators with rotating magnetic bars: this type of magnetic filter works without the need for manual cleaning, due to the rotating movement of the magnetic bars that drive the product to the outlet, while the tubes attract the ferrous particles that are released outside the magnetic separator, in a tank.
• Separators with linear magnetic bars: this type of magnetic filter is characterized by the fact that it is intended for the plastic and food industry. These separators attract the particles separating them from the product.

 How does an industrial magnetic filter work?

We can find several types of magnetic filters as we have seen above, but they all have the same basic operation. As we can see in the image, the contaminated material passes through magnetic tubes in which there is a magnetic field created, which attracts the iron particles, separating them from the target; whether they are dealing with food or liquid. Once the material has come into contact with these tubes, the resulting material comes out of it without impurities.

Sectors in which an industrial magnetic filter is used

Magnetic filters can be found mainly in the plastics and food industries, to separate iron particles that can be dangerous. Likewise, we can also use them in other industries such as:

• Ceramics
• Chemical industry
• Food industry

In the same way, they can be used for water treatment plants, recycling of industrial oils, drilling oils (emulsions of oil and water), automotive oils.
