Waterproof neodymium magnets

Neodymium magnets are the strongest permanent magnets about their attractive force and dimensions, as well as having high coercivity and remanence. Unlike the ferrite magnet, which has a strength 10 times lower than the neodymium magnet, the neodymium magnet is not resistant to moisture, however, a coating can be installed on the neodymium magnet to make it waterproof, without having a lower attractive force. However, this magnet has a low corrosion resistance, so they are mostly used with a coating. This rubber or plastic coating offers a high resistance to water, so they can be used in external and humid spaces where there is the presence of a temperature between -30 and 80ºC. 

Several sectors using waterproof neodymium magnets coated with nickel, plastic or with a PVC sheath, allows the magnet to be resistant to corrosion and oxidation. We can also opt for rubber casings, unlike the artificial coating, the natural ones have several microscopic holes, causing a worsening of performance.

What types of waterproof neodymium magnets are there?

There are two types of waterproof neodymium magnets, which are ideal for outdoor or underwater use: magnets completely coated with a plastic layer and magnets that are plasticized in a PVC sheath.

Depending on the applications for which they are intended, there are 4 types of coating: 

- Magnet with threaded coating

- Magnet with threaded sleeve coating

- Magnet with threaded coating on the inside

- Magnet with rubber coating with countersunk hole

What are the advantages of neodymium magnet coating?

Being protected from external factors, the neodymium magnet will have a high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Thanks to its protective coating, it can be used outdoors and especially in underwater applications. Whether with a rubber, nylon or plastic coating, the magnet will be safe from scratches or scuffs. The coating can be customized to camouflage the magnet with the wall or the environment.

Where can we use neodymium waterproof magnets?

Waterproof magnets can be used in metal walls, bars and offices. In addition to bathrooms, refrigerators and aquariums. Water magnets can be used for temperature control and controls inside aquariums. As well as for decoration as a support for corals and reef rocks. 

Water magnets can be found in water pumps like the ones found in automobiles, this favors the cooling of the engine.
